Diary of a Quantum Automata

About Me

Me? Isn’t it presumptuous to talk about oneself? Well, put that to the wind for a moment.More importantly, if you’ve come all the way to this page, then its only because of your curiosity and why should I stunt that?

Born and raised in a small town in what is called God’s Own Country, nestled in the lush green southern tip of India, I have a special place in my heart for nature and all its mysteries. In trying to find answers to some of the questions I had as a child, I was led through several years of mostly useless “education”; but currently, I am pursuing a PhD in quantum physics at the Imperial College in London – finally able to address the burning questions of my childhood days.  My work here deals with trying to see the cosmos in a microcosm.

Apart from all that cognitively intensive stuff, I am an avid music lover; perhaps due to the precocious number of musical prodigies from my hometown. So much so that I spend close to six hours (on working days that is) sifting through my collection that ranges from classical western to Carnatic instrumental to new age, electronica, 80′s pop, psychedelic rock and progressive rock.

After music comes my other love, reading, which too, like music, extends from end of the spectrum to the other; from the mellow verses of Alexander Pope to the richly romantic lines of Keats and Shelley to prose that includes Cervantes, Conan Doyle, Orwell, Richard Bach etc. In addition, I am a die-hard fan of Calvin & Hobbes, and hold Calvin’s philosophical insights as rather profound. Most of the times though, considering my scientific bent and taste for mathematics, I end up reading (NOT studying or learning; yeah, there is a difference) technical books, mostly of the esoteric variety. In between work, I procrastinate by entertaining my serial addiction to several online comics, especially, xkcd, Abstruse Goose, popstrip, Questionable Content and SMBC, among others.

Lastly, I would like to make a brief mention of my religious ideology – my religion is logical rationalism. Yes, you read it right; I am a staunch rationalist and so it is only in the rigorous machinery of logical proof that I have any faith on. What is proved exists, everything else is mere hypotheses.

I suppose that should bring to an end, this rather boring and self-centered rant. That’s all folks!!!
